  38. mods, whether their own information or pointers to FTP sites.

  40. The following list shows the current directory structure of the mods 
  41. section on world.std.com.  The path for those without World accounts is: 
  42. /pub/hamradio/mods
  43.  
  44. As you can see, I have created different subdirectories for each 
  45. manufacturer to help make it easier to find what you are looking for.
  46.  
  47. Please keep the mods coming, especially for mods not shown below or for 
  48. updates to currently existing mods.

  384. Noting the lack of a call sign in you sig, I assume that you
  385. are not a ham yet.  So I will not recommend getting on the air
  386. and using it.  Instead, how about
  387.  - listening to W1AW slow code transmissions and try to copy as
  388.    much you can, even at speeds greater than your current copying
  389.    ability. If you listening to a transmission at or below your 
  390.    current paper copy speed, then try copying it in you head.
  391.  - get an iambic paddle and a keyer and send to yourself.  This
  392.    will give you lots of practice and get you ready for the air.
  393.  - monitor lots of CW qsos and get used to the abbreviations and other
  394.    features of cw ham radio qsos.
  395.  
  396.    This worked for me.  I got my first license in July 1991 as an advanced.
  397.    My first qso ever was at 13wpm or so with KC0IO, the day I got my license.  
  398.    He could not beleive that it was my first qso.  What he did not see 
  399.    were my shaking hands and a 3x5 card in front of me with a 
  400.    fill-in-the-blank version of the qso.

  458.              Solar activity was low.  Numerous high B-class and
  459.        low C-class flaring occurred this period, all optically
  460.        uncorrelated.  Region 7648 rotated off the disk.  Two new
  461.        Regions were numbered today.  Region 7652 (N05E72) heralds the
  462.        return of old Region 7640.  Event level surging preceded its
  463.        return.  Region 7653 (S05W82) is the other new numbered region.
  464.        At the moment, all regions appear stable.

  611.     Well, you are certainly right that I do not know that much about 2m 
  612. synthesized transmitters but at least I tried to answer the question to the
  613. point. In fact I was surprised that no one responded in kind, only in legal
  614. advise which I am sure most people are already quite aware of. The point is
  615. that the question did not warrant judgement.

  621.     Ferrite core inductors are fine, when you can get the forms and 
  622. inductors. In our grid, these things are hard to come by, as such air core
  623. inductors are the easiest to construct because it does not require special
  624. cores. This may not seem a problem to you because you have taken the availability
  625. of such parts for granted. Secondly, given the high-frequency of the said
  626. circuit, air-core inductors are quite normal and could be would without making
  627. the size too unwieldly. Thirdly, air-core is not old-fashioned. You can 
  628. confirm this for yourself by opening any VHF radio or rig and you're bound to
  629. find some.

  635. decide (ie: police) for himself, what is right or wrong. given that he already
  636. knows the law and the consequences of his actions (whatever they may be). He
  637. has not indicated that he would operate a pirate station, therefore there are
  638. no grounds for implicating him for such an act.

  677. Two items come to mind: 1) MFJ makes a portable beam in which the 
  678. elements store in the boom. Haven't tried it but I do have a 
  679. portable beam that works well. 2) Larsen Antennas makes a roll-up
  680. half-wave that you hang from a tree limb. Nice if you have
  681. trees nearby.
